In 1999 the global bonded magnet production amounted to $875M, rising to $1092M in 2001. In 2001 bonded ferrite (which includes both flexible and rigid ferrite) accounted for $655M with the balance being bonded rare earth. The flexible ferrite production was $215M in 1999 increasing to $368M in 2001. Its global production in 1999 was 100,000 Tons increasing to -115,000 Tons in 2001 [1,2,3].

It is backed on one side by pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive to secure it to the edge of the surface due to be bonded. This product lends itself to applications for which portability, flexibility and frequent reinstallation are important factors. It is more flexible and resilient than extruded ferrite , allowing posters and display panels to be rolled up tightly for carrying. Being frameless it is a fraction of the weight and cost of traditional ferrite . Recently high-energy product flexible magnets using rare earth materials have been reported [13, 14].

Development An important development is a new magnetic product trademarked as Mag-Edge" [12]. It is developed by Anchor Magnets, a subsidiary of Kane Magnetics International. The 52 TABLE 2.
