In preparation for their poetry performance, the children were divided into groups and each group was allocated a specific animal. When we became their audience, the children had already rehearsed their allocated verses and made face masks. The groups practised their presentation, adding mime and adapting their voices according to the attributes of the animal they were presenting. The groups had been chosen to represent a balance of gender and ability. Some of the children, who were unable to memorise the words, were able to use action or musical instruments.
